I've moved this Williamsburg-style brass chandelier from home to home with us. Last moved it in 1992. It uses small base bulbs, one of which just blew out after I tightened all of them, then restored power. Bulb component broke off from base and I removed base by twisting with a longnose plier. There was a "pop" but no smoke. No bulb (good ones included) appears to work in that socket, while all the other bulbs light up.

Anyway, my thought is that the socket itself may be bad, but it is installed on the end of a long piece of shaped metal, probably steel (all of which was covered by a plastic "candle"). While I expected to see a screw & nut assembly holding it on, it appears to be a rivet. Am I going to have to grind off one end of the rivet to remove and replace this socket? What am I missing? Would the problem not be with the socket?

Solved my own problem by reading solutions on various sites. Cleaned the contacts on side and bottom. New bulb works. Whew!
