I have just got a 8-9 week old chihuahua cross pomeranian and he is just getting used to the house and seems to be fine during the day when were in but at night, it's a problem! We are crate training him becase we have a cat and don't want to leave them alonetogether. So at night we put him in a large crate iwith newspaper(which he is used to using as his 'bathroom'), a blanket, bed, water and food, his teddy's and chew toys. We also leave a clock(sound of a heart beat) and the radios on. But the problem when we go to bed and put him in it he goes loopy(normally knocking his water over) and barks and crys all night! My mum had to go down last night about 1:30am as he was still barking and crying let him out and slept on the sofa as we need to get some sleep, he was then fine and just cuddled up and went to sleep. So how can we keep him calmer and quiter so we can acctually get some sleep? Please help??

A puppy will be a lot calmer if you put his crate in your room at first. And he doesn't need the radio; he wants to hear you. The clock is a good idea.
A crate is not a place you want your dog to use to go to the bathroom. That just creates confusion. A crate trains him to hold it in and then go outdoors, and a small dog would have a small crate for that. If he is still being housebroken, use an enclosed area of the living room or kitchen for him to be in, with newspapers etc. when you aren't playing with him, or he isn't sleeping in his crate (or use the big crate just for his bathroom). Take him out just before you go to sleep and as soon as you get up, and make it a routine. He can hold it in 8 hours at night by now. Dogs like routine and learn much more quickly that way.

Thank you for your opinion. We have newspaper in the corner of the living room so that he can use and he does the newspaper was in there for accidence really. Also, about going out he has had his vaccines yet so didn't want to take him outside really so were just using the newspaper. We will try the crate in the room when were asleep. But he also got the problem if we leave the room like to go upstairs or even the toilet he will cry and bark. So not sure what to do about that either? Thanks again for your help as its our first dog.

He can go outside for toileting on a leash before his vaccines. It's important to housebreak right from the day you get him.
He may be a bit hyper at first because it's all new, because of his breed, because he doesn't know that you aren't disappearing when you go upstairs. Can you let him follow you? I might even leave the bathroom door open so that he can figure out what it is. It's a big dog-joke that dogs just have to know what's going on in bathrooms.
Any puppy is a lot of work, so don't stress over what is right or wrong too much. It sounds like you are fine. Let him cry a little. It's the people who get puppies and then go off to work and are gone 9 - 10 hours that worry me.
