    Five wisdom teeth.
So, I've needed my wisdom teeth out for a little while now. I have five wisdome teeth but none of them have erupted yet. My face swells up sometimes and I can't eat.. they cause a lot of pain. Not all the time though. They just act up at times. I've lost my insurance now and the dentist had told me if my fifth wisdom tooth moved further back during surgery they would have to take me to the emergency room. Do you think I should wait until them come up through the gums.. or get them out asap?

I have not heard of more than 4 wisdom teeth. They are called the third molar and your teeth are usually synetrical. Check out this site for more info. To Keep or Not to Keep

I used to have the same thing as you, although I only had 4 wisdom teeth.

I had them removed last year and I'm glad I did. My teeth were under the gums. I'm not a dentist, but I think it's useless to wait for them to erupt and suffer because of this. And anyway, you'll have them removed. Then, why wait?

You should have them removed. It's not the easiest surgery but trust me you'll be much better after!

    Good luck to you! :)

I was a dental assistant and took x-rays on a patient who had 4 extra wisdom teeth. One in each quadrant. So he had a total of 8 wisdom teeth. The 4 extra had only 1 root but they were extra wisdom teeth nonetheless. They were impacted so we had to send him to an Oral Surgeon.

The younger you are when you have your wisdom teeth out the better chances you have for fewer complications and more quick healing.

I would think that the facial swelling and the pain you've been having indicate that they should be removed now.

Be sure you are seeing a qualified Oral Surgeon not just a Dental Surgeon especially since you have the extra tooth.

I have (had) 5 wisdom teeth it I think it is a genetic thing because my aunt had 5 and so did both of her sons(my cousins). Out of all our cousins on that side of the family we are the oldest 3 so I do not know if they will have 5 or not but, I would not be surprised if a few of them did.

So my best guess is that it is genetic and if you have 5 (0r more) you should ask your family if they did too you would be surprised the little things they do not tell you but would answer if you asked

    You got to love family
