Sewer smell only on cold days
2 years after we bought our house we decided to remodel our front bathroom. Now we have a sewage smell in both bathrooms but usually only in the morning and only when it is cold outside. No smell at all in the summer. Please please help. Thanks

This sounds like a vent pipe issue, how was the bathroom vented?

I have no clue. I know that we do not have a vent pipe coming out of the roof There is a pipe that comes about three inches out of the ground that runs into the septic tank because we flushed chlorine tablets and watched them float by. If it was a vent problem would it not smell all the time? It doesn't smell at all in the summer. Also this morning when I put close in the washer the utility room started smelling but the washer water doesn't go into the septic tank. I runs to the kitchen sink pipe which runs into the woods.

Hot air rises, sewer gas sinks, cold air sinks. Air inside your home and outsude is always moving and the sewer gas maybe venting on its own under certain conditions. If you are not handy with plumbing issue this may require a plumber to figure out how and where and even IF it was vented properly. From what you have said so far it is likely not vented correctly. All drains need traps and all traped fixtures require venting.

Bob said it before I could
. Sewer gas raises with heat and falls with cold. Go up in the attic and look for a open vent pipe. Good luck, Tom
