Hot Flashes... Making Me Hot Under The Collar
I am 44 and was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer and made the choice to have a double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. I was told it was a radical decision, but knowing me I would be wondering if I had it in the other breast if I didn't do it. Anyway, shortly after this 'radical decision(?)' I started experiencing Hot Flashes and was told that it was a result of the surgery; that it basically put my body in early menopause. I was prescribed a combination of Wellbutrin SR and Neurontin which was fine for a bit. Now these hot flashes have decided not to play nicely and I'm having the worst time, every single day. Is there any other type of medication that I can take to combat this problem? I heard that there was; I just don't know what it is. (I Know I can't take the conventional medication that is used because of the hormones in them. Hormones can be like cryptonite to women in recovery from BC.) I have at least one more surgery before this is all over for me, so I would really like to get this problem worked out before then.

    Thanks in Advance.

This is the story of my life! It sounds as though I wrote this, aside from the fact that I was 32 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer!

Yes, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I take Pristiq for my hot flashes and it works fabulously!

Here's wishing you a long healthy life!
