I got this yorkshire terrier when she was sixth , nw she about 9mth. She was eating dry dog food fine until she was at my friend's place and she gave her "othe foods" what she fed her big dogs, fresh food. Now she refuses her dry food though I mix lean meat of all sorts amongst the dry stuff, she just picks them out. I don't know what to do. This morning gave her just the dry food, hasn't even touched it. Maybe I have been spoiling her with snacks (feel guilty if she didn't eat her food so I do sneak in a snack or two). My fault I guess?
Today, I am being tough, so far , no snacks , still , she hasn't touched her bowl.. sigh... help??

Wow... and I thought I was the only one with this problem. My Yorkie is coming up on 6 months. I got her from a guy who couldn't take care of her because of his hours at work had changed. He gave me her dry food and a couple of wet food pouches. We too tried her with the dry food but she wouldn't take it. After that I purchased some holistic food, still no luck. She loves her wet food and will tear it up, even when we mix the dry into it, she will eat around it. It really amazes me how she does that though. It will be very interesting to hear other views on this subject because I am so very stumped. My only concern is that to my understanding these small dogs are very quick to get hyperglycemic. (hope I spelled it right).

It sounds like she is holding out for the good stuff and treats.
Small dogs especially need the benefit of the dry hard food for their dental health.
If you free feed, change it up a bit, designate 2-3 times during the day at first to offer a meal, put her food down and give her ample time to eat then take it away.
Treats should be used as rewards try not to use them as supplemental to the meal.
For the first couple of meals, because she is a tiny breed you could mix in a little canned food or gravy to entice her to eat, but make sure you mix it is very well, if she is going to pick it out make her work for it. Don't use canned with chunks, use the pate' type food.

Denise44 is on the right track just going in the wrong direction.
Hyperglycemia is when the blood sugar rises too high.
Hypoglycemia is when it drops too low.
Smaller breed dogs are prone to this happening, it is not so much a problem when they are adults but it is a real problem when they are very young pups and is deadly.
If this were a large dog I wouldn't even suggest mixing canned into the dry food, but since she is a small breed, you don't want her to go too long without eating.
I've heard differing views on it, some say no canned whatsoever, but I prefer not to chances with a tiny dog.

Edit: I should have been more clear, small breed puppies are subject to hypoglyciemia, a drop in blood sugar.

Thanks, Lady Sam for your response. It was very helpful. I shall curb on giving her snacks when the guilt hits me. I feed her twice (is this correct? ) This morning, I gave her the dried stuff and she did not even want to look at it. This evening, I have just given her some chopped up lean meat, noodles and she is cleaning the bowl out I guess I really have to put this through to her that if she does not eat what I feed her (in the mornings) too bad, she has to wait for the night feed ( I feel so bad) . Ah.. wouldn't it be simple if I could just give her the bottle like babies get : ) . Thanks for your advice
