Are you the alpha? Is your dog trying to tell you things? Talk back and see what happens.
I talk back and she continues to bark
Dogs bark for many different reasons, most owner can tell what their dogs bark means after they've learned to listen.
I can tell the difference between "I want to go outside", "there's something scaring me", "I want to play", "I want to go for a walk", "I really need to pee", and every other bark my dogs have.
Your dog is likely trying to tell you something. So figure it out. Only you can, as this is your dog.
She rarely barks to go outside, I know that bark and her play bark, this is different. She barks at me, whines at me, moans at me and lays on top of me.
She wants attention.
Are you the one that spends the most time with your dog?
She could be barking at you because she is bored...
When she barks at you, does she show her front teeth? Sometimes dogs that are trying desperately for acceptance with bark, show front incisor teeth and canines (looks like a smile) and will "snake" around with their bodies. Does she show her belly a lot? Does she demand that you hold her? Does she jump on you the minute you sit down? If so, your dog has some major confidence issues.
Dogs with confidence issues will do whatever they can to find acceptance. You are the leader of your pack, and she is really trying to "fit in".
My advise.. Ignore her and stop letting her jump on your lap and demanding attention. Its going to be hard, and she will probably move from you to the other members of your family, in which, they need to ignore her as well. Replace her neediness with an activity. Take her for a walk more, take her to the dog park longer, enforce rules such as laying down on the floor instead of on the couch and in a bed. Introduce a crate and put her in there whenever you want to.
Dogs with confidence problems will do very strange things to get attention. Any type of correction is a reward to them because you are giving them attention. The best remedy is to ignore her and start obedience classes. Even if she is "obedient", classes are always a need. It teaches dogs how to act around other dogs and people and it breaks up their day plus it keeps you on a schedule on how to train a dog. Teaching a dog "sit" just isn't enough. Once they know sit, they need to know much more. Plus, most obedience classes will introduce you to fun stuff like agility, tricks and rally.
She doesn't have confidence issues. She doesn't show het teeth, she doesn't jump on me. It just recently started when my boyfriend had surgery so he's home with her all day and when I get home she barks at me, no matter what I do, play with her, take her for a walk, love her, she use to never want to be with me and now I'm the only she wants!
That was my next guess.. is there something going on with you. Some dogs are just ultra sensitive to our bodies hormone changes.
Or are you on or coming on to your period? Or has it gone away? Was it worse than normal? Maybe you're going to have a bad period.
If there is nothing wrong with the dog, and the only change is your boyfriend being home.. I would check yourself out.
I'm not pregnant, I just had my period, nothing different with it. My boyfriend loves her more than I do! He babies het way too much. Im thinking it comes down to attention but no matter how much attention I give, it doesn't help, or maybe there is just something wrong with me!
Well, I think we have just exhausted our bag of tricks for dog psychology 101. Thinking caps back on.
I thought that is what we are trying to find out. When a dog puts Its whole weight on a person, that is a dominance issue. So, you have to re-establish you are fhe alpha. So that means some hard and fast rules between you and your pet.
No time on the couch or bed with you, she sits when you say, and she doesn't go near her food when you put it down until you say so. Your b/f has to follow same rules.
Has she been spayed? If she hasn't, has she had her first season/heat? Is she going through a hormonal phase?
