I am trying to find the title of a movie that I saw a long time ago. It is a western, set at a fort. There is a young officer and an Indian scout trying to talk peace to the Indians. They are unsuccessful and in the end, they dig holes in front of the fort and hide in them to ambush the attacking Indians.

There is also a scene where the fort commander's troublesome wife is taken by the Indians. He sneaks close to the Indian camp and sees her being brutalized. He shoots her from the woods to keep the Indians from torturing her more.

Any help you can give me in finding this movie would be so very much appreciated. Others have suggested The Searchers, but this was not a JW movie. Ulzana's Raid has also come up, but I know that movie well, and it is not the one I am looking for.
