    Bolens ht18 garden tractor
    I need to get the starter out of this tractor,what would be the easyest way?
    I know the motor has to be pulled or can it be raised enough to get at starter?
    I need to replace the starter teeth,any help would be good

    Hi,
    Looks like an Onan 18HP engine, so it must be pulled. Of course there is more than one Onan model possible, so tha it about as far as I go there. Except Sonny has the parts breakdown for the tractor online at:

    Is it possible to change the drive pinion by raiseing the mtor a little to get at the nut
    And change the pinion without takein the starter off?

    Hi,
    I have heard of some unusual fixes before. You have not verified that it is indeed and Onan, or possibly a Kohler K-series twin.

    Hi,
    Okay that would make it either a K532 or K582. It leaves the possibility of a bendix or solenoid-shift starter. I will assume the former since you said you saw the gear. It is quite possible that you can get to it or remove it with the engine in the frame. The service manual for that family of engines is here:

    If you provide the five digit spec number, I can likely find a parts breakdown.
