My home AC unit stopped working about 3 days ago during the Labor Day Weekend and I could not get a service tech to come and check it out until today. I have a Payne outdoor unit and the tech opened the top and in two minutes told me that I needed a new compressor and that it would be $1700. Does that sound right? How much does a new compressor normally cost for a payne outdoor air conditioner model no PA10JA060? Should I get a second opinion or just go with the $1700 estimate?
