I am an unwed single mother of a one year old baby girl. My daughter's father has never been involved in her life. He has never paid a single dime for anything. I've tried to reconcile with him, but he didn't want anything to do with my daughter. He's been verbally abusive toward me, and has a really bad anger problem. So I left it at that. I've been providing for my daughter since I was pregnant. Now he wants visitation rights and some custody. He is not on her birth certifiate, is there anyway, he will get some kind of rights?

Yes. He can file - in Court - for visitation (or custody). The Court will order DNA. If he's the father the Court (in my area) will order that the birth certificate be amended. He will get visitation. You can ask for Court-ordered support, which will be awarded.

You cannot cut him out of your daughter's life. He is her father but he needs a Court order to exercise his rights. If he has PROOF that you are unfit to have full custody of your child he can be awarded custody and you can be awarded visitation.

This is one of the problems when you have a child with an anger problem and/or an abuse problem.

Did he have anger issues, abuse issues, when you were having sex with him or did they develop when you got pregnant?
