What can I do... Form 1099-MISC
    Hi,

I received a w-2 form for my primary job, as well as a form 1099-MISC for a on the side job I had on the weekends teaching English at a non-profit organization. No taxes were taken out for the side job, where I earned about $2000. Doing my taxes I received a return for around $800 with my primary job, but I was upset when I added the form 1099-MISC now I owe $77.

I know I didn't pay taxes on my paychecks at the second job, but how is this possible? I was expecting to get money back and now just for having a side job teaching English (which I really didn't need).. caused me NOT even to get a small amount of refund... but instead OWE!!

I know to answer this question details may be needed, but is there anything I can do in general? I don't really have enough itemized deductions to help out, but I hope there might be something else I can do. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

    Have a nice day!

If no taxes were paid when you earned the money, they must be paid when you file the income taxes.

You had use of the money for most of the year, instead of giving the U.S. government an interest-free loan of your money (that's what a refund is).

Some would consider this good money management and not be so upset!
