Hi,

I'm replacing my thermostat for my gas furnace. The old thermostat had Red, White, and Green wires. The old thermostat had a Cool-Off-Heat switch as well as a fan On-Auto switch. My new thermostat has no such controls, it is just a no-thrills heater thermostat. My new thermostat doesn't have a place for the Green wire. I'm guessing this is the fan wire? I've hooked up the Red and White wires, and the thermostat/heater seems to work fine. I've just left the Green wire disconnected. Is this correct? What should I do with the Green wire? The fan still seems to come on when needed, like it used to on the old thermostat when set to the "Auto" position.

Done and done , seems you got it right

Just leave the green wire disconnected. You won't have the fan on option that is seldom used.

Hi Mark,

It sounds like you have the system up and running now. Thus, my response is more for those that come across this thread searching for answers about the Honeywell thermostat through a search engine.

I encountered a similar difficulty with my old Honeywell thermostat (which contained a mercury switch) in that the wires were not properly color coded and the wall plate did not identify the wire types. I found the manual for this model quite helpful and was able to properly wire my new digital thermostat because of it. The link to the manual is:
