Just replaced the float switch on my sewage pump 4 days ago and it was working fine. Did lots of laundry which drains into pit and flushed toilet at will. Suddenly this morning I noticed when the toilet was flushed it filled up to the rim like it was about the overflow then flushed right down. Later noticed water seeping around base of toilet. At same time as washer was draining. Also noticed suds under washer where laundry room drain is. Checked area where sewage pump is and water was seeping out from under the lid of the sewage pump pit. The pump ran and the water drained back into the pit. When washer started draining again the same thing happened with the water at sewage pit site. The pump was running but still had back up. Any thoughts?

Don't know how this is plumbed but it sounds like you have 2 issues. #1 is a blockage in the drain line from the ejector pit and #2 that the check valve, hopefully one is installed, is not closing. Could be something is caught in the check valve. Check Valve? Picture of drain system fron ejector pump?

Is the rest of the house draining OK?

Sounds like the check valve's clogged in the open position or it might be clogged all together. In any rate open it up and see.
If you find it's clogged with lint from The washer put a lint trap on the end of the discharge hose. All you need is a old nylon stocking. Let me know if I guessed correct. Good luck. Tom

The rest of the plumbing is above ground so it's working fine. I'm also trying to figure out what the sump pump in my laundry room is for.

Sump pumps are typically for intrusive water through the wall or under the floor. Is there water in the sump?

There is always water in the sump pump next to the washer. I've never noticed it go on.

Sump pumps have a float switch. There will be standing water until the level raises above the float switch. If this concerns you perhaps you can lower the float. Good luck, Tom

I am not concerned about the sump pump in the laundry room. I am trying to figure out how to check the check valve on the sewage pump. It appears to be 3 or so inches above the opening to the pit. I'm new to this stuff. I will have to do some investigating as to how to get it open.

Can you open the check valve or do you have to cut it out to check it? Let me know. Tom
