    Xanax
I have been taking Xanax for 25 years for high anxiety. I have only a vision problem from taking them. Is it OK to be on this medication this long? I only take a 1mg when I feel anxiety coming on. My dr says take 2mg twice a day. I feel that is too much. So I break them in half and take 1mg twice a day. Do I have an addiction to these? Please help... Worried

The best person to address this is your Physician - someone familiar with your medical and personal history.

There is no way to know if you have an addiction. What happens when you stop the medication?

I am reading that long term use can cause side effects - but your Physician is aware of that and must feel that the benefits outweigh the risks.

It sounds like you have more of an aversion than addiction.

If the prescription is relieving your anxiety, you are taking a minimal dose with no side effects, can't see any reason to question. As Judy noted, next time you're there might want address this issue with the doctor.
