I am 14 and want to know what I can do to change my living situation . My mom has not been giving me enough food to eat I weigh only 79 lbs, there is never any thing in the refrigerator , even though she gets food stamps, she sells them sometimes. I am often left alone for periods, it is scary. My mom sends me to school even though I am sick and the nurse has a hard time getting ahold of mom to come get me. I need to see the dentist all she has to do is make the appointment and take me. It never happens she makes time for herself to go to the dr or emergencyroom . But if I get sick oh well. She calls me names that really hurt I am a good child just want to be with my grandma who will be a caregiver who loves me and does what a parent should do. My dad is in my life but he can't care for me. Can I as a child of 14 do anything legal to change my living situation? If so what and how much would it cost?

Call child services, it's free. They'll take you from your home and your mom may be charged with child negligence. Use a search engine and write in- Contact child services - with the city, state/county, state you live in. Good luck! I hope everything turns out for the better.

If you had money to pay for this you would have money to buy food.

What you can do is call social services and tell this to them... if they can verify what you have said they are the ones with the authority to take action.

Has your Grandmother attempted to talk to your mother, ask her to sign over guardianship or custody?

If you are being abused you need to call Child Protective Services (or whatever it's called in your area). If you are in immediate danger you need to call the Police.

The school nurse is required to report suspected abuse. Has she?

What is the exact custody situation? Does your mother have legal custody of you, Court ordered?

I am afraid if I contact children services that my mother would take it out on me. I am afriad of her. I am afraid to say anything around her about this she would be mean to me . I love my mom but I know being a kid is suppose to be better then this and I deserve a normal life.

And when you call to say you are being abused make certain that the authorities know your mother will "take it" out on you.

Call 513-241-KIDS (5437) any time of day or night -- even weekends or holidays.

And, yes, the school nurse is obligated to report abuse or suspected abuse, and that includes if you are underweight because you not being fed.
