I don't mean to worry you but this sounded like me, I was always irregular, heavy and painful and I kept saying to people something is wrong I've had irregular periods for years and did nothing, but I did eventually go to the doctors just to check and I found I had polycystic ovaries syndrome, this can vary from every woman, this may or may not be the case with you but I do suggest going to get a check up. If you wish to read up on this for more info try here: Polycystic ovary syndrome - MayoClinic.com

Every woman is different, and as you're maturing your period will change until you finally (for most women) settle into a pretty accurate routine.

Some women have periods that last for only 2 days, while others last for 7. Anything in between that is considered okay. If your period lasts longer than 7 days on a regular basis, I would talk to your doctor. Don't be overly worried, but it's always best to get checked to make sure there isn't something wrong that's causing your periods to last this long.
