A one of a kind. Now I hope he is within reach of the stars. RIP Armstrong.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of—wheeled and soared and... swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark nor even eagle flew—
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
    (John Gillespie Magee)

    Hello:

    RIP Neil..

For what it's worth, my ship was involved in the Mercury program in the early 60's... I STILL have a mental picture of the space capsule John Glenn was riding in, drifting down to the ocean on three giant red and white parachutes. That would have been February, 1962.

For some reason I am reminded of Buzz Aldrin punching that moon hoax guy. That was awesome.

    LOL! That actually happened?
Those conspiracy theorist can get out of line sometimes.

I don't see how you can fake something like that.

Yes it really happened, but at the moment I believe this is a tribute to Neil Armstrong.

Robert Heinlein added this verse to the Navy Hymn

    Almighty ruler of the all
Whose power extends to great and small,
Who guides the stars with steadfast law,
Whose least creation fills with awe -
Oh grant Thy mercy and Thy grace
To those who venture into space.

And to the conspiracy nuts... well NASA has the capability to take photos of the landing sites... They currently have these posted and expect more detailed photos on future orbits.

I remember it well. I remember at school the next year they passed out a 45 RPM record on the moon landing to all of us. Wish I still had it. I remember the moon rocks traveling through town. Very cool stuff.

Naturally, Obama had to pay tribute the Obama way...

    Quote:

We all know the world revolves around The Greatest President in the History of Everything. So it makes sense that all the other celestial bodies were placed in the sky to shine down upon him.

This is not a Photoshop. This was actually posted on Obama’s official Tumblr page:

    http://dailycaller.com/wp-content/up...narcissist.png

Sure, Neil Armstrong walked on the moon. But only to tidy it up, so that one day it would be a suitable resting place for Obama’s kingly gaze.

Hat tip to Sooper Mexican, who notes that this is a stock image from last April. That’s how Team Obama thinks: “Hey, we got any pictures of the boss looking at the moon? Any way we can make this all about him?” And that attitude starts at the top. Just ask Queen Elizabeth, as she’s deleting all the Obama videos from the iPod he gave her…

You ruined it first by making it about Buzz punching someone so I'm not moved by your faux outrage.

The summer of '69 was certainly memorable - the first moon landing in July, Woodstock in August, and the Mets winning the World Series in October - wow!

It was mentioned that it was a "stock" phoyo. So it wasn't taken in the present time of reflection.
