    Falsifying time sheets
    I a
Employed as a charge nurse in a facility who contracts out for nursing assistants. I am required to sign their timesheets. I know they arrive 1 hr late and leave 1 hr early. The director if nurses tells nurses to sign even though we know they were not in attendance. Not sure if upper mgt knows lg facility over 100 employees

What is your question? Should you report the employee, the Director of Nurses, upper management to someone?

If this arrangement needs the facility understaffed the State very well could step in IF the arrangement is uncovered.

In a nutshell - employees are cutting their day short by 2 hours but getting paid for the full shift - ?

Yes they are getting paid for hours nit worked. Nurses don't want to sign time sheets but are told to do so by director. We believe this is theft and want no party to it. What is our recourse without retaliation from director? Thank you very much

You can continue to approve the timesheets, knowing they are false.

You can tell the Director you will no longer continue the practice - and risk your job.

You can go to management and trust they realize they are being robbed.

Send anonymous short note typed to owners of facility. Word it vaguely so that it isn't clear if you are you or are some of the employees who don't leave early and are disgruntled.

Understaffed could lead to a lawsuit if a patient dies or is given wrong medication etc. during the short staffed times, and lawyers find out. I wouldn't want to be in your position.

I would not persoanlly fake or sign a report that is false. If a boss wants to sign them, they can sign them, just take all of the fake ones to your boss and ask them to sign off.

By not reporting it and/or by signing it, they could latter blame you and deny knowing about it.

Report the understaffing and lying to the State Board of Health.

There should be an ombudsman in your facility - report it to that person.

Invoke your chain of command. If the DON is telling you to do this, go higher up... Human Resources, Administration, etc.
