    Big Fat Knee
Anyone know the symptoms of a sprained knee? My knee has swollen up pretty big over the last 2 days. 4 days before that, I took a very graceful tumble (tah-dah) down on to concrete. Landed on both knees. Both knees were badly bruised. They are going away and green now. But then the swelling in one started.

Plus I can't bend it to 90 degrees without a pulling feeling down the front of my knee cap. Also, going down stairs is tough. The knee feels weak, like its going to give out. Going up stairs isn't such an issue.

I hate going to the doctor. Any thoughts on if this is serious enough to warrant an appointment. Or will it go away if I stay off it? I sure would like to be back on my bicycle now that the weather is so nice... finally!. in Texas.

Sadly the doctor is your only option. There could be more damage than a sprain.

The fact that it's swelling, and you have a hard time bending it, is your bodies way of telling you that something is wrong.

You'll need x-rays, which you can't do at home. You need a doctor.

LOL! Sorry. I wish I had a different answer for you. I hate going to the doctor too, but sometimes it's necessary. I really think that this time it's necessary.

Swelling, not being able to bend it properly, there's something going on, and I don't think it will fix itself. Better to go now, get it looked at, get the right treatment, then to wait and hope only to have it get worse and end up having to undergo surgery because something healed incorrectly.

You'll be fine. Take a deep breath, make the appointment, and go. Just get it over with. I'm sure you'll be glad that you did. :)

So, do you know what type of doctor I should see? I don't have a regular doctor except for my ObGyn. Would it be an orthopedist for something like this? I'm on the hunt!

I might consider a chiropractor, but it sounds like there was an injury, so an orthopedist would be my guess.

Actually I was leaving my chiropractor's office when I fell. Sweet irony, story of my life!
I was squeezing an appointment in on my lunch break. In my rush to get back to the office, I caught my high heel on the edge of a curb. I came down on both knees. Purse and contents, naturally, disbursed. I'm such a klutz. Ha-ha.

I will look into an orthopedist. Thanks!

I wouldn't see the chiropractor about this until you know what's going on. Any adjustments he makes could make the damage worse if it's a serious issue.

Besides, it's sort of his fault, and going back to the scene of the crime, nah! ;)
