I took some IV drugs and missed my vein with part of it. It isn't bad, but swollen and a little painful. What can I do to bring the swelling down? And I know I should not be doing this, please don't judge.

You go to the ER and tell them exactly what you did... and you deal with it.

The only way it will kill me is if I don't get off the . Missing a vein while using IV drugs just puts the drug where you shoot it. It's painful and swollen and I thought someone with a little medical knowledge or experience might have an answer. Going to the ER is not it. Although I appreciate your response and understand that you don't have first hand experience with this, it isn't good to post misinformation for others to read that might take it seriously.

Jane, your are right that it won't kill you. However, depending on the drug it could cause tissue damage or tissue death.

J_9 thank you and yes I understand what damage could be caused by this. And I appreciate your honesty. At one point in my life I've had multiple years of sobriety and can not seem to get back where I belong. Thank you for not being judgmental.

I'm a nurse. It goes against my profession to be judgmental.
