I have an exterior masonary chimney which has clay tiles and a stainless liner which is made up of several 3 foot sections of 6" pipe. There is an elbow at the bottom where the liner/chimney turns 90 degrees to enter the house. The elbow is broken in several pieces. My question is how do I replace the elbow? I have an adjustable elbow which I can adjust to a straight piece and allow me to put it on the pipe(s) and re-install the liner, but how could I adjust the elbow back to 90 degrees. The elbow is about 3 feet inside the chimney(measured from the interior of the house. The hole from the interior to the elbow is only about 6 1/2 in in diameter. Is there a swpecial elbow I need or some special trick to install it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It was probably installed from the roof down. That means that the elbow was put on the pipe and lowered down the chimney and additional pipe was added till the elbow was at the bottom opening of the chimney where you see it now. There is no trick to it just pullout the pipe put on the new elbow and put the pipe back in. Then reinstall the associated chimney covers etc back on the top. Make sure you have some help for this project.
