    What's happening?
I was about 2-3 weeks pregnant and my boyfriend and I had sex and I started to lightly bleed pink blood so I put a tampon in. Later that night I took a pregnancy test and the pregnancy line was very faint. The next morning I wasn't bleeding but later that day I started to bleed heavily with red blood. I have some cramps. I am worried I am having a chemical miscarriage. We really want a baby and are getting discouraged. I really need to know if this sounds like a miscarriage. I would also like to know how to avoid a miscarriage and how to increase the chance of pregnancy.

How did you know you was 2-3 weeks pregnant... there are no tests that can give a reliable definative answer that early after implantation.

The test was positive. It was faint though.

Faint doesn't count. That's what is callled a false positive or inconclusive.

You really need a full 4 weeks after actual implantation before a HPT is considered being able to give an accurate and conclusive result. Before that you might get false positives or false negatives. A doctor office administered blood test might shave a week off that.

I'd still recommend visiting your OB/GYN They can give you the best advice tailored to your specific situation and medical history.

2-3 weeks pregnant by medical standards = the time of your cycle you'd be ovulating, or at least not able to test yet. Medically speaking, once your period is late, and you have a positive test, you are considered 4 weeks pregnant because the first day of pregnancy begins on the first day of your last period. (I know that seems silly but that's the way it works)

I disagree with smoothy that a faint line doesn't count. IF the test is done accurately, a faint line = pregnancy. Often its faint because you tested very early. I do agree with the timing though, which is once your period is late ("4 weeks pregnant") is the earliest you should attempt to use a HPT.

Regarding your question, its possible you are having a chemical loss. However, without a doctor verifying the pregnancy and/or IF you are losing it, we can't say. If it concerns you, contact your doctor ASAP.

Avoiding miscarriage at this stage is nearly impossible unless you are under a doctors care and a predetermined condition is found. This early, a miscarriage most often happens due to chromosomal abnormalities which cannot be helped and are unfortunately random for the most part.

    Clear as mud? ;)
