I have been searching for years (unsuccessfully) to remember the name of a movie that I saw as a kid. I believe it was mid 80s when it released and all I can remember about it was that it was a live action fantasy type setting and it started with the main character (boy) in a field and he catches sunlight reflecting off a crystal off in the distance. Once he grabs the crystal is when (if memory serves) a battle breaks out with fantasy type monsters.

I realize this is not a lot to go on but I'm desperate for your help!

I believe this was around the same time as Labyrinth/Dark Crystal/Legend/Last Unicorn movies were released.
