I have a split level home. When running the sink upstairs in the kitchen (which is directly over the shower) the shower downstairs overflows at the drain. It also overflows when running the shower itself. It will slowly drain within a couple minutes, but brings a debris and an unpleasant order with it. I have tried liquid Mr. plumber witch comes with a small/skinny 23 inch plastic snake. It pulled up a little hair but did not unclog the drain. I also tried a plunger. It just sucked the nasty debris water up into the shower pan, but did not unclog the drain. Like I said, it does drain, just very slowly. Any ideas?

You have a partial blockage downstream from the shower, The solution would be to purchase a small ( 1/4" but not over 3/8ths, inch snake and snake the shower line. Run a little water in the shower just enough to cover the drain and begin snaking, When the water drains out you'll know you cleared the clog, Good luck, tom

How long does it need to be? I have access to a floor drain which is about 6 feet away. Between the floor drain and the shower drain there is also a capped white pvc pipe in the floor. Would I snake from either one of these or just go through the shower drain as you mentioned? If I do the shower drain I will have to removed the drain cover/grate. Do these removed easily and are they meant to be removed? Meaning would I have to re-attach/reseal with silicon?
