    We have always filed jointly, how should I file this year?

    If you are on speaking terms, file jointly.

    If you are not on speaking terms, file married/filing separately.

    A separation is not a divorce and you are married for tax purposes.

    Agreed; jointly is probably the BEST way to file provided you can agree on how to split the refund.
