U need to know if I can get temp or perm custody of a 17 year old child. Her mother and father are both deceased and she has been living with her step mom for the last year since her father died. Neither parent had a will giving the step mother custody. The step mother gas now given the 17 year old to the state saying she no longer wanrs her. The child has requested that I get custody where do I start. Court hearing tomorrow. I live in Washington state. Thank you.

Who are you to the child? Are there any other relatives?

If the state has custody, approach her case worker and offer to foster her.

If you are a family member like a aunt or uncle, older brother or sister,

If you have no family relationship, I doubt it, they may put him in foster care and allow you to try and get him that way.
