What should be done to minimize penetration of sun heat as much as possible?
Sir, I have a very simple question. Right now my house is under construction and we need to final up our roof. My question is what should we do to keep our top floor (2nd floor) cool in summers because it gets too much hot in may-june? Is there any way to cut penetration of sun heat through roof as much as possible?

An attic fan will lower temperature in attic. This will help lower temp in rest of house. Have it set up to go on by temp in attic.

I agree with Harold. Attic fans are energy hogs and rarely lower the house or attic temp.

Is your attic vented or unvented? If vented, keep HVAC ducts completely out of the attic.

    Hi STH

That depends on the size of fan.

I have a 48'' fan that is mounted in rear gable. Changed the plywood on pull down stairs to a louver( had to modify). Leave windows on 1st level open about 1''. At night time close windows and open the ones in bedrooms. Fan comes on when attic reaches 110 degrees.

This does not help with humidity but does cause a draft in whole house. Cuts down on use of AC.
