How do I explain a messy termination?
I worked for a company 4-5 years ago.I worked there for a little over a year and I left with a messy termination. There was an issue with my team leader and she was unhappy that I got her into trouble. Shortly after that, I was brought into human resources where they told me I was falsifying my time sheet and not working the hours I was putting down. I had left a few days early but recorded that, and I had issues with my time card that I submitted to the IT dept. I told them to talk to a, b and c and they said they had already talked to everybody they needed to. I wasn't allowed to go through my computers to collect documents or emails, I just had to go. I didn't file for unemployment because I didn't know I could. (I was younger).Within the next month or two they downsized quite a bit.
I've had a couple more jobs since then but not in that field and it hasn't been an issue. I am looking to land another job in that field now but am worried that incident is going to come back to haunt me and I don't know how to handle it in an interview without acting defensive.
