I have had the same problem too. Smelly hot water. I've installed the UV light and a 1 micron filter before the light, to no avail. Gone so far as to replace the tank. Two weeks later the smell is back. When I boil cold water it does not emit any odour.

I like the point about oxygen in the water to combat the environment of the 'plant'. My air injector has not worked for a couple of years and I cannot source a replacement.
