Can my husband adopt my daughter if her father has never been around?
My daughter is 14 years old and she has asked my husband if he will adopt her. Her father has never been around and he is convicted sex offender. So he can't even if he wanted to but he don't. I just don't know where to start or where I would even have to go. I live in Poplar Bluff Missouri. If anyone has any advice please feel free to post >email address removed<

    Thank you

You're asking the wrong question. The only reason your husband would not be allowed to adopt your daughter is if a court denies the request.

A court will deny the request for one basic reason, if the bio father refuses to allow it. However, a court can override the bio father's objections if its in the best interest of the child.

In your case, I think they will override any objection he registers. However, the court will probably require he be contacted to for his permission.

Since I would not recommend this be done without an attorney, you should start shopping around for one. A local attorney can tell you what is possiblein your local courts and what you have to do.

Hire an attorney, as part of the process the attorney will contact the bio father and get him to sign over his rights to allow the adoption
