Is it illegal to take pictures of a cop car?
Someone I know took a picture of a kid beside of a cop car wearing a DARE shirt and she was going to post it on myspace and the cop asked her what she was doing and she told him and the cop said if she did he would throw her in jail.. Is it against the law to take a picture of a child standing beside a cop car?

No the police officer was lying and a adult should have told him to blow it >>>>>> or report him for scaring a child.

Assume USA since you said DARE, now in some nations you can not take photos of anything military and police are often military or they will just take your camera away.

But in the US, you may photo them anytime in public you want.

Your parent needs to call and compain against this officer

That's what I thought it doesn't show the license plate number on the picture and the cop isn't in the picture so I don't see the harm in her posting a pic of her child representing DARE in front of a cop car..

DARE is a program created by the police If I were a cop I would be proud that a child who was wearing a dare tee shirt wanted to take a pic in front of my car

The cop can be in the photo, the license of the police car, the car unit number does not matter.

I wish I was there, I would have told that cop off very quickly, I was a officer for years, we used to pose with kids, all the time, he should have went over, kneeled by the child and made them feel special.

This officer ( if this is true and the way it happened) is a worst excuse for a officer and I along with most officers are sorry you had this experience

Some officers and department continue to say it is illegal to take their picture or to tape them but the Supreme Court does not back them up. Filming and Photographing the Police | American Civil Liberties Union
