Traffic Law - Unpaid parking fine query
I have been contacted by a debt collectors agency asking for a large some of money for an unpaid parking charge at my old university site for earlier in the year with my reg number and details of my car. However it is the first I have heard of it and have had no previous opportunity from the parking management company (their client) VINCI.

I have sent a letter to VINCI stating that I would like to appeal as I was not made aware by them previously however they replied with a general letter saying I had gone over the time to appeal and should directly contact the debt collectors. I refuse to speak to them as I should not have been sent to them in the first place.

The debt collectors have now sent me another letter stating if I do not contact them for a further 10 days legal action will be taken..

What can I do? What should I do?

Do you park at the campus ? If so and if it is likely you got this ticket, you attempt to settle with them.

This is what will happen, they will sue in court, and they will show copy of the ticket as proof of debt and you will have to prove you were not on campus that day ( somehow) if you were not there. But if you lose in court not only all of the current fees, but court and most liklely legal fees will be added.

So unless you know and can prove this was not you, it will only go downhill from this point. They will say of course a ticket was left on your car, you will say you did not get it. The court will really not care ( my opinion)
