    Adoption
My sons dad hasn't seen him in 6 years. Haven't talked to him in a year. Don't pay child support. Can my husband adopt my son?

Not without the father being notified and, in many States, consenting.

Why is he ignoring the child support order?

You will have to either get the fathers permission, or file in court and prove it is in the child's best interest. In the US each state has its own rules for reasons allowed,
For example in GA just not paying child support or not visiting is not a reason.

It doesn't matter how often he's been seen or whether he pays support. He is the legal father and therefore you have to attempt to contact him and get his approval.

Since you should have an attorney prepare the petititon, start shopping now for one who will explain the process.
