    Ask a Plumber
Just had a new Whirlpool gas oven delivered and was told they could not install because our old oven was hooked up with brass flex to flex connection through a partition(floor) and that was not code. Wanted to know if that was correct or if we have to hire a plumber to change out the brass flex to flex connection to a copper pipe an about how much that would cost.
    Thank you

As you thought, your best bet would be to call a local plumbing company and let them take care of the situation. Good luck, and please let us know how it turns out.

In my area, a licensed plumber can do gas. Don't need a separate certificate because we also are trained in gas piping during our aprenticeship. If you are doing work as an hvac company, and not working under a plumber, you would need a gas fitters licence. I believe most areas regard plumbers as gas fitters also because it is after all, plumbing. Interested to hear how it is in other necks of the woods.

Any idea how much that would cost? Is it correct that the previous connection is not code any longer?

I can't help you out with cost, as hourly rates, etc vary extremely from area to area, and without seeing the job firsthand, I just would be throwing out uniformed guesses. As far as the flex supply, in my area, you can not penetrate any wall floor or enclosure with a flex supply, other than on manufactured fireplaces. So yes, I would say your settup is out of code. Not sure they would use copper to correct this, but would most likely switch over to black iron, or csst to above the floor, then use a stainless gas flex connector to the oven.
