Dining room light won't turn off
I removed a ceiling fan with two sets of lights. The lights were controlled by a dimmer switch. Coming from the ceiling are a set of white wires, black wires, and a single red wire. I attached the new light fixture as follows. White to white, black to black, and just capped the red wire off.
The light turns on but won't turn off.
It was suggested that I change out the dimmer switch to a regular switch. When I removed the dimmer switch there was a white, black, and red wire. I used the white and black to connect the new switch.
The light still won't turn off.
    Please help!

    Questions

How many switches were there originally?

Does that mean a ceiling fan with two sets of light that could be controlled separately? Or does it mean that you simply had a set of light (two or more bulbs) that worked in unison?

Does that mean that there was a black, red and white house wire or does it mean that the dimmer switch had a red, black and white lead that you sued to wire it to the house wiring.

Describe the wiring in the switch box and in the ceiling box.

    Describe like this.
In the ceiling box there is a two wire cable with a black and white wire and there is a 3-wire cable with a black, red and white wire.

I suspect that you had two switches and that the wiring in the ceiling was a 2-wire cable and a 3-wire cable. The white of the 3-wire cable was attached to the black of the 2-wire cable, That the white of the fan/light was attached to the white of the 2-wire cable, that either the black or the red of the 3-wire cable was attached to the black of the fan/light and the red of the 3-wire cable was attached to the blue of the fan/light.

So tell me about the switches and the fan/light and describe the wiring.
