    Alimony from Dependent
I was the dependent upon separation and divorce in NC. I have not filed for alimony yet but before I do, want to know if I would have to pay him alimony or provide any support to him when I get on my feet? Chances are, I will make a good income when that happens which will possibly be greater than his income.

Depending on how long you were married and what your state had to say about it. The obligation of alimony goes both ways as it is meant to equalize the two parties for restarting life.

Yes alimony is by state law in the US, so it can all depend often on where you live. And the income difference. How long you were married to see if it would be awarded, incomes before marriage, during marriage and earnings after can all be looked at.

But yes it is possible that you may have to pay.
