I have a carrier roof top ac unit that runs r22 and I am wandering if I can put a pound or 2 in to top it off , without having to flush the complete system first? Can anyone answer that?

There is no such thing as topping off refrigerant!! The refrigerant in the unit is of a critical charge nature and must be done using all the proper tools and knowledge of a qualified service person or severe damage may result.
