I remember a TV movie about a singer who was unsuccessful until a group of angels came and played backup for him. He thought he was playing with them but the angels were invisible. He did become successful.

I checked Love, American Style, and the ABC Movie of the Week without success.

I thought Ricky Nelson was the musician but it doesn't list this as one of his movies

Some of the angel's lyrics were:

"We want to hear ourselves on the radio,

We want to see ourselves in the picture shows..."

I know, campy... but I can still remember the music. Can you help??
