    97 camry died
I was driving to work came to a stop but before as I was slowing down pressing my brake it stiffened and just died. It didn't make any sound when it died, car was still on so it wasn't the battery. When I tried to start it again it just made some clicking noise and that was it. What could it possibly be?

It clearly sounds like a bad battery, to me. Most auto parts stores will test batteries for free. The summer heat killed it.

I'd install a new battery from Advance Auto Parts. Their batteries are made by Johnson Controls, which make good stuff. They incorporate the technologically superior PowerFrame Grid, instead of the inferior molded grid in most batteries. Buy it online, with a discount code, for local store pick-up.

We've already tried replacing the battery with several other batteries. It does not seem to be the problem.

The clicking noise is then caused by a worn out starter solenoid. The contacts get pitted. You can either install a new solenoid or rebuild the existing solenoid, if it's made by Denso, or opt for a new or remanufactured starter motor. If you opt for a new or remanufactured starter motor, go with one from Toyota.

Before you do that, however, clean the battery terminals and cable connections, including those going to the starter motor. Disconnect the negative battery cable first.

Most auto parts stores will also test starter motors for free.
