Help! I currently am having two problems with my water pump. First is that the drop pipe keeps breaking off the water pump. My question is why? Second is that when we fix the drop pipe and prime the pump, it runs very well only until the next day. The next day the pump continues to run and gets very hot but is not pumping the water. My question is what is causing it to stop pumping and keep running? Please please help. GenD

What kind of pipe? Are you using a torque resistor?

What is a torque resistor? I am talking about the drop pipe that goes down underground of a deep well.

Torque resistor or arrestor is basically a specially designed piece of flexible piping or coupling, that goes between the motor and the rigid well piping.

When motor of the pump starts, the housing of the motor naturally tries to turn in the opposite direction of the rotor. The "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction" thing. Add that to the resistance of starting the impeller (in water) there is a considerable twisting action on the well pipe in the direction opposite the rotation of the pump.

Sounds like that is what is breaking the well pipe and also sounds like it only takes about a day to crack it. Allowing the water from the pump to flow back down the well.

Unless your well pipe is steal, I suggest you install torque resistor. See your well supplier.
