Please let us know the Scientific reason Behind Prohibiting Men from Wearing Gold

Is there really a law against men wearing gold? Holy COW! I better get my husband a silver wedding ring then!

That's a new one on me too.
Where is this prohibited...

Admittedly, I personally, don't like gold jewellery, much prefer silver.

It is prohibited as per Islamic rule. It has been written in Quran. So that I want to know if there is any specific reason behind this.
