Hot water pressure loss when shower used in separate apartments with separate tanks
    Hi there,

I have a 3 unit building that is a converted house. There are 3 electric hot water tanks in the basement, 1 for each unit. The tenants are complaining that when they shower and another tenant is showering, they lose the hot water. This doesn't make much sense to me as they have there own tanks. Cold water is shared as far as I know.

    Thanks,
    Josh

You've just answered your own question. Unless you provide a separate water service and meter for each unit the problem will be on going. I guess you could increase the size of the meter and water service line and seem if that helps to furnish more volume. Good luck, Tom

I would expect that there would be a reduction in the cold water pressure in this scenario, but I don't understand the drop in hot water as each apartment has their own tank. I would understand if they were getting scalded when someone else was flushing the toilet. Thus my confusion.
