You get an attorney and try to get a "Diversion". This is a program in Canada that allows first offenders to get probation and do community service and/or restitution in exchange for having the record expunged once completed.

First it all depends on how much, it is either 100 dollars worth, or a 1000 dollars worth, there is a big difference. And the value is often put at what the NEW value of this item at retail in the store would be.

next how did you actually get the item. Did you steal the items and they just can not prove the theft, so they are charging you with possession ?

Did you buy them from someone else. if you did, sometimes you can get out of it, by making a deal to help convict the theft. You testify who you bought it from, in trial against them.

What a stole was 2 old iPods and 2 gps devices so I'm not sure how much they cost and I knew they were stolen.

You knew they were stolen because you stole them? That makes sense. That's one reason you need an attorney, so you can avoid admitting a charge which the authorities would otherwise be unable to prove.
