Just found out my old landlord sold the place and sued me
We moved out before our lease was up and the landlord took us to court for feb 2012, march 2012 and April 2012 rent BUT after all said and done we found out he sold the place jan 20 2012 right before he made it hard to live there. Can he get money from us even though he sold it without us knowing it??

If he did not own the property, he isn't entitled to rent from it. So you go into court with a copy of the title showing the effective date of the sale. And ask that the case be dismissed because he didn't own the property.

Agree, he can not collect money for a time he did not own the property.
If he was working as agent for the new owner, he can sue, but has to do so on their behalf.

Also you need to get a copy of the deed transfer to know the exact date of the sale to be sure.

So the landloed must not know that I'm taking him back to court yet, but I got a kind of nasty letter today from him saying he is going to make it his life long hobby to pester us if he don't get money form us. Can he do this with the case being closed and a judgment is on us already?

Show that letter to the judge at the next hearing. You may get a restraining order against him.
