I was in USA (Buffalo, NY state) from 01 Aug 2006 to 30 November 2006 (122 days), on employment (L1 A visa) , drawing salary in USD from my company in USA. But now I am back in India and I will have to file my Fedaral and state taxes for the year 2006.

On Fedaral tax filing , I don't have any questions. I am a NRA (non resident alien) for Fedaral Tax purposes and I am planning to file 1040NR-EZ.


On NY state tax I have following questions.

1. Which state tax form that I need to use?
2. Whether state taxes be filed on line?
3. If answer to 2 is yes, would appreciate if you can point me to some online softwares.

Anil:

1) Form IT-203 for NY.

2) Most tax softwares require you file the state tax return at the same time you file the federal reurn. SInce Form 1040NR-EZ cannot be filed online, you probably will not be able to file you NY state return online.
