Modems on one drive not on other drive
    Help
I have a compaq 501OUS pent 3 win ME. I have a 2 gig hardrive I have no problem going on line, when I took my 2gig hardrive out and put a 40gig hardrive in my moden won't respond, I have reinstall the modem(US Robotics PCI Faxmodem includes V.92 and V.90 ITU standard technologies) physycly took it out and reinstall it,removed it installed it again, checked device manager no yellow marks and it says the device is working properly, the only difference I see is if you go to contol panel, modem diagnostic, when the 2 gig hardrive is in(the one that works) it says modem # 1 on com # 1,modem #2(its just one modem) on com #2,when I put the other hardrive(40gig) in it says modem # 1 on com #1 but the other one there's no port,I can't change ports it won't give me that option when Im installing it on the 40gig hardrive. Can anybody help

    Modem
    Hi,
About 5 yrs ago, I paid top dollar for a good US Robotics Voice/Fax, external, modem. A few months later, it destroyed itself! After two (2) free replacements later, I gave up. I sincerely hope the quality control now is better.
I use a Creative Modem Blaster, external, now... V.92, and it works great.

    Now, to your problem.
You physically took it out, must mean it's internal.
First, go to Control Panel, then Add/remove Programs, and remove it.
    Then, reboot.
Take it out again from the computer, then re-boot.
Get out the instructions that came with the modem, and try again, following exactly the steps provided (not saying you didn't the first time).
These modems can be hard to install, and get windows to configure them correctly.
Also, disable any Antivirus program you have running when you do the uninstall, and again when you install it.
    Best of luck,
    fredg
PS; The com ports are supposed to change automatically by windows as you uninstall and re-install.
