Installing remote in hampton bay ceiling fans
I have a Hampton Bay fan and light in my bedroom. Suddenly the light stopped working but the fan worked on all three speeds if I pulled the chain. The remote was useless. And yes I checked the batteries. I went to Lowe's and purchased a universal remote, took the fan down, removed the old remote receiver, replaced it with the new receiver. Come to find out the new remote receiver was a return and was defective. So I purhased another one at home depot specifically for Hampton Bay fans and lights. I also purchased a new fan also a Hampton Bay with a light just in case. After setting the dip switches in the receiver and remote, so this unit would not interfer with any other units in my home, I installed the remote in the old fan first, and nothing. I pulled the chain for the fan and the light and nothing worked. There is power from the connection in the ceiling, but when I connect back to black and white to white from the ceiling, there is no power coming from the black and white wire on the other side of the receiver. Even after I connected everything up, and secured the fan to the ceiling, nothing worked. I took the old fan down, install the new fan and new receiver, and again nothing. I tried putting the old fan back up and wiring it straight to the power without the receiver and both the light and fan worked when I pulled the chain. What did I do wrong?? I would like to have this fan work with the remote as the only way to control the fan and light is with pull chains as there is no switch connected. Please help!
