My 11 year old standard schnawzer keeps standing in one spot with his back slightly arched. Whenever I try to get him to move he stumbles and loses balance. He can still get from place to place though. We just had him eat prunes after he stared at them for about an hour. He can still keep his eyes open and he is breathing right. He is drinking a lot of water and now he's staring at the ground again. Any advise?

First of all, prunes will cause your dog to get sick.. and not just a little sick, majorly sick. Prunes are in the same class as grapes and raisins.. they will cause kidney failure.

An arched back with not wanting to really move around and lay down tells me he is in a lot of pain.

You need to head to an emergency clinic.. He is in pain and you fed him poision.. He needs a vet right now.. Not later, not tomorrow, not later tonight.. RIGHT NOW.

He may already be in kidney failure - I've seen those same signs.

Why prunes?

They probably thought the dog was constipated and prunes supposibly help with constipation.. I'm just guessing.

Learnt something new here, never feed dogs prunes, I never knew they were dangerous,so glad I haven't fed my pet prunes, why does this effect a dog and not a person?

Why does Acetaminophen cause great damage in dogs very quickly, including death and aspirin kills cats?

Different systems.

My late husband was a Pharmacist and got into a raging argument - and he was a quiet man - over what animals can and cannot take and tolerate. Pharmacists take specialized courses (in fact, my husband was the teacher) and the Vet was not up to date. One Vet, one example, but I now research everything.

Or I ask Lucky.

Acetamiocophem? I haven't a clue, lucky you got someone that's knows that stuff.. I think I might just look this stuff up so I know, prunes seem like harmless dried fruit too, shocked at that

It's Tylenol, products like that, other than aspirin. Dogs always need aspirin, not the other "stuff."

Aspirin should be used if you have absolutely nothing else and its an emergency.. Their bodies just cannot handle the drugs and it affects their organs.

Grapes, raisens and prunes are toxic to dogs. Research really cannot explain why they are toxic, but they are. Just like onions will cause anemia. Their bodies just aren't built to metabolize those toxins at a healthy level.

Like I said.. aspirin should be used only if there is no way you can make it to the vet and the animal is in a situation that would be deamed extremely painful in human medicine.
