Whirlpool Dryer Squeaks. Is it the motor?
Ok, so my Whirlpool dryer started to squeak a few days back. I tore the thing apart this evening. I WD40ed the rollers in the back. Didn't help. So I unhooked the belt that connects the drum to the motor to see if the motor was making the sound. I turned the thing on - still squeaking. I have deduced that the motor is bad. Probably need to replace the motor. Does this sound like an accurate diagnosis? Please let me know. Thanks!

Would guess it is probably the idler pulley - the one that keeps the belt tight.

Did you lubricate it? High temperature silcone grease will hold up better than WD-40.

    Stew,

I'm not sure that's the case. When I disconnected the belt, it took the idler pulley (and the drum and the rollers) out of the equation and the squeak remained. The only thing moving was the motor. Sound about right? Thanks!

Didn't pay attention to the fact you were running it w/o the belt on.

The blower connected to the motor shaft? Is the squeak coming from it?

Just one more thing to check, then you've got it - motor.
